Bring your characters, environments, props and storyboards to life. Explore light and shade, perspective, color theory and basic design techniques. Learn how to take 2D line drawings and process them into tones for a lifelike result. Also, explore arranging shapes, values, colors and edges in interesting and intriguing ways to create images that hold the viewer’s attention. Estimated cost of materials: $40
In this class, you’ll discover fundamentals that help organize your ideas and creativity on paper while learning what gives graphic design its structure and meaning. You’ll be challenged to utilize traditional tools, modern resources and clever solutions, while also exploring how these methods relate to digital methods. You’ll set the limits for your four creative assignments: a poster, a logo, a media application and the design of your “big idea.” This class can be taken in tandem with Graphic Design 2. In this class, you will work on identifying and describing brands as well as conceptualizing and designing your own brands from the ground up. All media platforms will be studied— from social media outlets to guerrilla advertising to traditional print formats. Estimated cost of materials: $40
This hands-on class will introduce you to industrial drawing skills and techniques that transportation design professionals use. This class includes an introduction to transportation design as a profession, and exploration and discussion of the trends and global forces impacting the present and future of transportation. Strengthen the skills you learned in Introduction to Transportation Design. Deepen your understanding of the design process and gain the tools necessary to present transportation proposals. The emphasis of this class will be on concept development, sketching, rendering techniques and presentation skills. Prerequisite: Introduction to Transportation Design. Product designers work on a range of projects, from consumer electronics to furniture to footwear. In this hands-on class, you will explore product design as a profession and discover marketing and production processes—all while learning industrial drawing techniques, concept development and visualization skills. Explore basic architectural concepts by focusing on balance, proportion and composition. Learn how to define your ideas spatially and develop the skills necessary to communicate them through drawings and models. Designing an environment means drawing from several disciplines, including architecture, interior design, landscape design, furniture design, lighting design and branding to create a comprehensive experience. In this class, you will learn conceptual thinking skills as well as fundamentals like drafting and model making. Projects may include designing a house, restaurant or retail store. Learn the skills needed to develop your own five-page comic book. From the establishing shot to the splash page, this class covers character design, figure invention, page layout, story structure, basic rules of perspective and classic comic book storytelling. Estimated cost of materials: $35
Apply your drawing and painting skills to create album covers, ads, magazine articles and more. Learn the basics of color theory using acrylic paint and other mediums. This class also includes a survey of contemporary problem-solvers and the history of illustration. Prerequisite: some previous drawing experience recommended. Estimated cost of materials: $70
Working with a live model in a themed costume, learn to capture the essence of a pose. In addition to covering fundamentals such as proportion, form and gesture, this class concentrates on the skill of observation and on developing an understanding of drawing from life—all in an environment that encourages you to enjoy the drawing process. This class is for anyone who loves to draw characters, regardless of skill level. Create and develop characters for video games, animated films and illustrations through fun and exciting exercises that strengthen your conceptual ability and skills. Learn how to develop a character layout sheet, a model sheet and a turnaround. This class will emphasize brainstorming, along with conceptualization of a story and ideas. Discover the fundamentals of entertainment design from an illustrator’s perspective and complete a finished presentation for your portfolio. Storyboard, conceptualize and design environments, develop characters and study the processes that the entertainment industry uses to create dramatic worlds for video games, animation, TV shows and movies. Learn how to bring drawings to life through movement in Adobe Flash. Create a storyboard and transform your story into an animation. Discover the importance of “meaningful movement”—not just moving an object from one side of the page to the other but also deciding how it should move. Estimated cost of materials: $20
Learn the different methods used to develop believable creatures and monsters for the entertainment industry such as film, video games, TV, and animation. Working from photographic reference of animals and nature, learn how to combine the fundamentals of design, anatomy, form, storytelling, costume, and character development to create original sketches and renderings of beastly quadrupeds, bloodthirsty bipeds, and large-scale leviathans. Photography is one of the most compelling forms of all visual mediums. Learn about both the technical aspects of the craft and the process of making creative imagery. This class includes a review of basic 35mm camera techniques and lighting as well as an introduction to contemporary art and modern approaches in photography. Requirements: access to and working knowledge of a film and/or DSLR camera. Estimated cost of materials: $15–18 weekly for film and processing
Follow the journey of a film—from the birth of a concept to the marketing of the final product. Explore the various stages of putting a film together, including storyboarding, production design, working on a set, and the post-production process. Learn about different jobs in the film industry and complete several in-class projects, gaining hands-on experiences with different roles. Estimated cost of materials: $30
Whether you’re watching a music video, a car commercial or the latest viral video, chances are Adobe After Effects played a big part in the production. This class will introduce you to basic principles of animation, compositing and working in 3D space using Adobe After Effects. We will focus on creating effective storytelling through the use of video, still images, typography and graphic forms. Estimated cost of materials: $40
Create stylized fashion sketches that are bold and expressive, yet loose and casual. Learn anatomical exaggerations and explore various methods and mediums to develop your own unique style and vision for fashion. This is an intense, fun and creative sketching workshop. Study the processes and materials used in painting, beginning with light and shadow, and work towards complete paintings in a full-color palette. This class will cover basic painting techniques, from preparatory drawing to color mixing. Estimated cost of materials: $90
Learn the fundamentals of color relationships and their use in composition. Explore the nature of various mediums— markers, colored pencils, ink and wash, acrylic paint and mixed media—and learn how best to use them. Estimated cost of materials: $100
Working from live models, learn how to draw portraits and improve your ability to achieve a likeness of your subject. This introductory class will acquaint you with proportion, structure, facial features and likeness as you visualize the head from every angle. Estimated cost of materials: $75
Learn to control your lines and line weights while drawing with line economy in a quick visual descriptive style. Develop your observation and perspective skills and strengthen your ability to communicate ideas and thoughts through drawings. Estimated cost: $40 for materials and $45 for textbook
Design 360º explores many of the majors in ArtCenter’s degree programs, including: Advertising, Entertainment Design, Environmental Design, Film, Fine Art, Graphic Design, Illustration, Photography and Imaging, Product Design and Transportation Design. Give a concise (1-2 sentence) synopsis of an original storyline that will be the basis of your portfolio. Provide a series of storyboard sketches outlining the arc of the story.
Design at least 3 characters central to your story pitch. Each character should be presented on a page of fully rendered drawings conveying the movements, expressions, attitudes and idiosyncrasies that express the character’s personality within the context of the storyline. Include reference images, inspiration, character development/exploration.
Create at least 5 fully rendered illustrations that convey critical, narrative moments from your storyline, depicting your characters in dramatic moments throughout the story’s arc. These drawings should show your use of composition and color while also conveying a sense for the aesthetic considerations surrounding the characters, including depicting big environments as well as props/objects.
Include at least 12 drawings from a live model. This should include gestural sketches as well as more finished drawings that demonstrate use of light, shadow, and perspective based on longer poses. Include faces, hands, and feet.
Include several pages from your sketchbook, focusing on observational drawings such as animals, people, locations.
If you have already created animated short films in stop motion, 2D, or 3D, please include this in your portfolio as a Quicktime file. This work does not need to connect to your Story Pitch.
This must include, but is not limited to:
A written analysis of a recently published video game. This document should not exceed three pages and must include a short written description of the game, a list of the game’s key features, and your opinion of what works and what does not, and what you would approach differently if you had designed the game.
The essay should be about a game (non-video game) that you like. This document should not exceed one page and must include a brief description of the game, a short paragraph that details what you like about the game, and your opinion of what makes the game fun.
Submit a minimum of three spatially or 3D-oriented projects that show solutions to a specific spatial design challenge. These should include drawings and sketches, along with photographs of models that demonstrate an understanding of 3D space, technical skills, and design sensibility.
A descriptive paragraph explaining the design concept and solution should be included with each project submitted. Quantity is not as important as quality. For instructions on submitting your work, follow the submission options in How to Submit Your Work.
Such as posters, brochures, editorial design, package design, motion graphics, web design, and identity systems. Pieces that exhibit a grasp of an issue, an individual point of view, or a unique approach to a problem are helpful. Evidence of an understanding of—and a passion for—typography is a must.

Applications must include a personal statement of focus and intent. The essay should outline the applicant’s motivation for pursuing graduate study in Graphic Design at ArtCenter and identify a specific goal and focus of study. The statement of intent should be clear and concise, between 500–1,500 words in length.
b. Personal essay
In 750–1,000 words, provide detailed information about your relevant personal, educational, and professional experience. Include your skill level with software, typography, and any media-specific skills (coding, spatial design, etc.). The statement should also include goals beyond completion of the program and describe how a graduate degree from ArtCenter will relate to your career objectives. Personal statements can range in content; the goal is to discover your relevant life experience, goals and personal passion.
Include a resume that outlines your educational and professional background and relevant experiences and activities, including community work.
You will be prompted to enter the name and email address of one to three persons who will be providing letters of recommendation on your behalf. References should be from people who are familiar with your work and experience and should speak to an ability to conceptualize, execute and communicate design.
Submit work that demonstrates your design and innovation abilities. Include examples of projects that show your process and how you develop your ideas into the project results. We look for abilities to:
a. Please describe: (i) your motivations for pursuing study in GradID, (ii) why you think it is a good fit for you, and (iii) what you envision you would ideally be doing five to 10 years after successful completion of the program.
b. In 2,000 words or less, please answer the following: If you were given a budget of $10 million and an uninterrupted time period of two years to work creatively on anything that you wanted to, what would you pursue and why?

Projects can be professional, self-initiated and/or class assignments. We encourage applicants from other fields but projects from outside of media design must demonstrate the applicant’s ability to cross boundaries and think about issues in the realm of communication and media.
All projects in the portfolio should be presented through SlideRoom. No physical portfolios will be accepted. Dynamic media projects should be accompanied by links to working examples to ensure the full depth of the project is experienced.

All Transportation Systems and Design applications must include a portfolio of work demonstrating design abilities. You may include vehicular projects that demonstrate high levels of transportation design competency. These should demonstrate creativity, critical thinking, problem solving, originality of solutions, excellent visualization/drawing skills, 3D exploration, good organizational ability, the ability to research, and a sense of curiosity and inquiry. Evidence of previous study of transportation design and competency will be expected. If your primary interest is in systems, you can incorporate a variety of projects, but should include some samples of transportation system concepts. Demonstration of critical thinking, problem solving, originality and organizational ability are important. Concepts should be demonstrated through drawing.

需要申主校Rotaman是要录视频的。你首先要有个电脑可以有摄像头和麦克风,网速要好。一Video和两个Essay。一个是100字20分钟内写完,一个是250字30分钟写完。题目我记得我当时做的事,你最尊敬的人,和珍惜的物品。video是 make an impression的一次经历。一分钟准备录两分钟。然后随便写个Feedback就可以了。其实准备充分问题不大的
我目前是utm大三ccit和eco的double major的学生,高中从多伦多毕业,大一的时候来到mississauga这个陌生的城市感觉很孤独,后来慢慢认识了学校里的同学。每天一起泡图书馆复习,一起赶due,一起打狼人杀。可以说是一段痛并快乐着的经历哈哈哈。给utm4星可能就是因为mississauga这边实在没啥好吃的吧 :)))
2009年进多大,2013年Rotman毕业…太多想说的反倒没什么可说,主校区百余栋建筑没谁在毕业前走过;忘不了Robarts门口每日定点守候的餐车;透过图书馆落地窗看过的日升日落… 反正是人生中最难忘怀的4年。
2012-2016在utm度过 整个学校坐落在森林里 比较安静 而且经常能看见野生的鹿在学校里走 比较酷眩。教学楼都很新 有些在我走的时候还在建造 现在估计造完了 所以设施来说没得说。gym也是多大三个校区里最好的 可是平时比较懒 没怎么去~ 对于周边生活来说 吃饭的点无非黄金广场周边那几家 最近也有新开几家别的餐厅 可以叫FoodHwy点餐平台 也算比较方便啦。逛街的话有sq1 但是相比起来我还是prefer稍远一点的sherwaygarden 那个mall超高大上 推荐一下~ 总体来说在utm的四年下来还是很愉快的。推荐五星好评~ 有miss的大小事可以滴滴我 wx:309437451
多大有三个校区,外面都传言两个分校比较水,但实际去过才会知道一点都不简单!每学期都有学长跟我说有水课,但教授出题仍然难得要死,天天都在忙着赶due ,所谓的简单只是相对于那些学霸来说的。要是想拿个不错的成绩,天天熬夜就更是少不了的,考试之前基本就是每天睡在图书馆的
